Stuffs and LINUX 64-bit and a suprise >~_^

So here it is its to damn long to let it be in the standard window as I've been told because of other posts.

Hi all, I figured that I haven't written any sort of up date for anything at all recently. To start with I was insanely busy with school, its over for the time being and I'm working, YAY. So recently I bought a new laptop to replace my previous Sony VAIO of 5 years, especially since it wouldn't do the OpenGL graphics for the class I had last quarter. I bought another Sony VAIO which is actually really nice. Its really reminiscent of a MacBook, but in my opinion better with more powerful hardware.

SONY VAIO CR220E/R
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor2.0 GHz
2 GB RAM
200 GB HDD
Intel x3100 On Board Graphics Card
DL 8X DVD Burner
Windows Vista Home Premium
-$200 Black MacBook

By the way thats totally me, my car, and the computer blends in so nicely with the car and me.

I bought this thing with little intent on keeping the OS (Windows) on it. Ubuntu 64-bit was the plan but I decided to keep Vista on it as a separate boot in case the problem with Flash and 64-Bit Linux doesn't get resolved soon. ON to something more important, LINUX 64-bit. Much less to I was excited to use a 64-bit OS thats mine, the SUN machines at school don't count. The install was just as painless as the 32-bit version of Ubuntu, the troubles came in when the system booted into the HDD OS for the first time. I really don't know what happened but it ran awful, more so on the interwebs than the stock stuff installed. Since that first boot it has been great and not much trouble outside of the usual problems I've encountered with Linux and Wireless interwebs.

So I was able to connect quickly to the servers at school, and my AIM account the next thing was getting Firefox up, which became a chore, because Flash wouldn't work. I got it to slightly work with Gnash install of flash but it fails at interactive flash pretty bad. As you can see in the below picture it didn't load right, the green things in the middle are spinning but the rest is doing nothing, almost as if it loads all the objects but masks them instead of doing something useful with them.

After that fiasco I need to make sure my stuff for my Programming classes would compile on my machine so I need to get G++, a C++ compiler. It seems that if your running 64-Bit and need to install something your 64-bit LIVE CD should be in arms reach, since it seems to need this anytime it install a package for you which is slightly depressing, since I'll know one day I'll forget it when I need. After Popping the disc it seems that everything can be compiled to be used in 64-bit even if it is only actually a 32-bit optimization. Moving back to code it seems to work, because I was able to compile OpenGL code and runs, see lower picture, but I was unable to take a screen grab of the 3D game I'm working on because I haven't gotten it to save out to a file yet.

Well I think I'm done I'll keep everyone that even gives a crap about this stuff updates on fairly regular occasion at the very least I'll be posting WallPapers every time so here is installment one.
1280X960: right click save as for full image

My Adventure

I guess I should start out in saying that part of this problem from my own neglect, but nonetheless it pissed me off. So here goes nothing:

Yesterday, Thursday the 15th of February, started out with me freaking out about a silly CS quiz but since class was canceled I felt great. Much less to say through out the school day life was becoming good and what not and I was happy when I got home. Sadly though from this point my day seemed to degrade at a pace that was shocking to me.

It started with my desktop pc and RE-installing Linux on it. So I boot the thing with the Ubuntu(linux) and three times in a row it tries to detect a hard drive and fails. First thing that runs through my mind is that my hard drives are dead. While this is increadably annoying its not like its detremental to my school work because Everything I have is on my laptop, linux also, and my External Drive. So after getting pissed about that I test to see if it will even boot into Windows and it does with no problems and I check all my drives and they are working fine. I turn on my external, which is connect to a fire-wire port, to check something (I forget what). A little voice in the back of my head was screaming "TRY LINUX AGAIN". So I do try and low and behold the hard drive that it was trying to detect was my external. Why it was doing that I'll have no answer but I got Linux on my secondary drive and now hopefully I'll be able to host my remote server. So I got it all installed and updated right before I had to leave for work.

On the drive to work it took me a few minutes to find a parking space on or around court street. I became scared that something was going to go wrong when I was driving and the car shut off and then turned back on real fast .... or at least all the electrical devices shut off and turn back on. Lucky for me I found a parking space real fast after this happened. So I made it to work again today, since this is my open and close split shift day, with out many problems.

Sadly the day degrades at an exponential rate from here. Every Thursday is meeting day for Adrian and myself, and this week was exceptionally bad. We started to discuss what we're going to try and do about a tournament thats is going to happen next weekend at our store, and we're going to basically run it. This would have been such a huge deal if we knew about it before this past week, and actually had details pertaining to it. But we don't and we still don't ... this made my day awful because we don't want our name, the grid lab, to become soiled because of this mass amount of confusion. Thankfully nothing else was as bad as this for the rest of the meeting.

After the meeting the exponential curve continued its downward tail. So I'm at this point kind of fried, and there was no customers at work, So I ask Josh if he minds if I play games until we close. Thankfully he tore himself away from collecting all them Pokemon to respond to me. I get my game, NFS:Carbon, and head out to the couch to play it, and I'm thinking "Man I got to pee, well I'll take care of that now." ... proceed back to the restrooms and was wondering what the Chinese restaurant was cooking that smelled so bad. As I open the door to the restroom all I could think was "Oh no ... please God no." I was greeted by the scene of remnants of what looked like some one shooting free throws from the door of vomit. It made me very queasy, while I cleaned it and a great many times I had to escape from the restroom just to breath. When I went to fill the mop bucket ... guess what the pipes where frozen for the utility sink. GREAT. So I had to improvise with the sink and the mop in the restroom in question. Another thing is that someone, a guy, used the womens restroom while I was cleaning the mens. NOTE TO MEN: if the seat is one of those U- ones ... LIFT THE SEAT its not that hard!
DON'T Assume your accurate ... because your not. So as I've been informed. 3 Days in a row that we've had serious issues regarding the restrooms. GAHHHHHH

You'd like to think that I'm done with this but I'm oh sooo not. Now we're closing and after I'm done counting down the register and I come up $10.09 short ... odd amount. After counting the drawer down twice, I try to remember the evening which lead me to remember my idiotic mistake of throwing $10 in the drawer that doesn't actually have a cash drawer in it. Crises averted, and being 9 cent off can happen with our POS. Thankfully later when I was making up my deposit Josh brings me 10 cent saying this was under where I was counting. This goofed me up for a little bit but thankfully it came out without much problems. So we're ready to leave and I've armed the alarm and started to walk out and realized that I was taking a fairly important key that needed to stay in the store. So I had to disable the alarm put the key back, re-enable the alarm and get out.

I normally give Josh a ride back to his dorm after work, and that night was no different than normal. Although we get in my car and I turn the key .... nothing. It didn't even crank. T_T So we're sitting there in a car that won't start on court street out side of the C.I. bar, which is normally filled with the kind of people I hate, thinking great there is going to be some way that these drunk douchebags are going to belittle me. Thankfully Josh stayed with me while I went to get something to eat. On the way to eat I called my father thinking maybe he had a "magic fix" in his bag of car knowledge awesomeness. Sadly I woke them up and they seemed, quite justly, annoyed with me. And as he stated it was my fault for not checking the belts and what not on the car because they where making a lot of noise, thus causing the event to have to call him at 12:45am.

So we get to Wendy's and order some food in the hopes that I'll calm down a bit. Sadly thought it was interupted with some drunk old lady be beligerant in the restaurant and solving her problems by going out drinking that night, and sharing with everyone that she's probably going to jail or something. I wish she was already there because I didn't want to hear it. Drinking doesn't solve problems and I wish that people wouldn't use it as a form of self medication in that form.

We finish and head back to my car, and run into my old roommate Darwin and he's like you should go out drinking, see above comment about drinking to solve problems so figure out how I responded. Any ways Josh and I pop the hood, which was frozen shut and required both of us to 'pop' it. We where considering to just goto Wal-Mart and buy a new battery because thats all we assumed it was. I deceided against that because It truely wasn't necciary, and we went back to work to use the phone book to call a tow company. But it seemed like we might not have been able to do even that because my key didn't want to open the door, and after struggling with it for long enough it opened. We made it back into work and we where both worried about some events transpiring recently that if the OUPD noticed that our alarm was turned off at like 1:30am that they would send people up. Thankfully the company that fixed my car before could make it to me.

My previous worries about drunk people heckling me where subsided when Josh said that if anyone does that to me while the towtruck is here that he'll throw water in their face. So after talking with the tow guy and finding out that a jump and a tow cost the same, I just let them take the thing. We run into Darwin again while we walk back to campus and Josh's car that he was going to give me a ride back to my apartment in. He stated that I could buy a lot of alcohole with the money that I spent on the tow ... again see above comments. Thankfully I get home without any more mishaps and take a hot shower and goto bed.
That was my story ... long I know but oh well, and I thank Josh for being there the entire time, You've earner your self appointed title "Awesome Josh Ende" in my book. Thanks Man you kept me sane that night.

Laters All
Jon >^_^

Whee

Well, quarter starts tomorrow. Not sure How I feel about it so we'll see what happens. I'm glad most of the stuff that I need to get done is getting done. I don't remember agreeing to this amount of work when I accepted the promotion that I got, but then again I wouldn't be getting a $350 check tomorrow, before Ohayocon, if I didn't. Which brings me to Ohayocon. I can't wait ... I really don't care that I'm screwing over my fellow managers at work but I did state when I agreed to take the job that I WOULD be going to Ohayocon ... no questions asked. I just got to be back by 4pm on sunday so I can work that night. Otherwise Hopefully it should work out well.

New Years / eve was fun, I got to go to a party with a lot of my friends that are students at OU. It was nice to not hang out with the locals, which don't seem to do anything different than they always do, complain about each other and play video games. So thankfully the students are back and I now have a lot of friends that I enjoy having a conversation with. We had a long debate about religion, and how things have played out throughout history. All three of us Me, Pete, and Tom & Janet, all had slightly different views about religion and its importance and how it affected our lives some how. It was much fun, so was the Plum wine that Tom brought to the party.

Hmm I can't really talk about much else especially since nothing has really been happening to me recently.

Weeee
Laters
>^_^< .

Hmm this seems silly

Ok, I guess I should use this Livejournal this as a montage of stuff that I live through at OU. So I guess I should start out with the fact that OU is fraking awesome. I love the school and I love the student body ... for the most part. I don't know what it is, but some how I've fallen into a basic acquittance of an odd group of locals. Now I'm not saying all the locals are like said group, but I've noticed a very strange trend with the locals, I can't put my finger on it. Anyways for the sake of this explanation / rant I will omit peoples names for the sake of broadcasting to the world who they are.

So we'll start with fact that I think that most of them are fully and completely nuts. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, I like Nuts, but what makes it annoying is the pure amount of drama that stems from everything. 3 I know pretty well, and I like them even though they are nuts, and I can live with the constant crap that they do, since I've learned to tune it out (think background noise), but other than that I like them and they can be fun. The problem comes into how they deal with other people and how things aren't let go and how much dependency they put on their other "good friends". :insert my opinion:='I don't see how you can call some one a friend with knowing them that little, had issues in the past, and/or when both sides over react to trivial things'. No offense if any of you are reading this, but I'm a casual friend to you all. I take no real sides. Nor do I really care about your interpersonal 'pissing contests'.

blah blah blah

yeah I guess I'm done because my brain has turned to mush.

OH yeah one more thing, I seem to have some magnet for the Athens Police, I got pulled over tonight, but thankfully they didn't have anything one me because they thought they nailed a drunk driver. HAHA I haven't been drinking, I just got off work. Atleast I only got a verbal warning about using my blinker ... which is basically nothing. But this is twice that the cops stopped me in less than 6 months thinking I'm doing something horribly wrong. First time I was running ... yeah running.

Oh Well.
Laters >^_^
